New Posting Schedule, what works for me

I want to work more on the content side of this blog. I love reading everything people write and love sharing my experiences, but for a while, I think having a schedule is important to me.

I just listened to a live webinar by Nicole at Blissful Eats speaking about how to make money as a blogger. Some of it was out of my element, but one thing she said was that it was important to focus on content rather than posting everyday.

I don’t feel like I post when I don’t want to, and generally have things I want to write about, but I do think if I worked more on the back end of my blog more for a little while, I can make it more fun for me and better for my readers. I use this blog to help process my own fitness and life goals, so that will remain. I do also enjoy posting foodie type things or about brands I enjoy.

You might not notice a change. However, this blog is also a creative outlet for me, so I will notice the change. This should be the catalyst for me to take a larger interest on the other side of blogging and make it a better experience overall.

I enjoy posting a recipe but some weeks I just don’t make anything good. I like doing WIAW because I can see where I’ve gone into a rut or what worked for me at a specific time in life. I also want to educate myself in vegan nutrition, specifically for active people.

How will I accomplish these goals?

Writing them down was a first step. I have a planner which I will use to make notes about what I want to talk about. If this doesn’t work, that’s ok. I’m not paid for this, I simply want to be more organized.

Pastabilities, IIN and Solving Shoe Problems

When I moved out and started buying my own food I made a rule, I will only buy pasta if it is in a fun shape. I have a couple reasons for this:

1.) My mom never bought pasta unless it was spaghetti or bow ties

2.) The fun shapes hold onto sauce better

3.) It is more fun to eat

1.) Catching up to my classmates with school work. I had a lot of work to do this past week, but am not caught up to where I should be. I really enjoy it so far and look forward to doing it when I get out of work.

2.) Another great Wednesday and Sunday run with friends. My friend Natalie is defending her Ph.D today and accepted a job across the country. This was our second-to-last run together. The man wearing shorts is the kilted runner from a few weeks ago. He has now joined us because we go faster and he is trying to qualify for Boston.

3.) I solved my shoe issue! My Kinvaras had been rubbing my feet in the wrong way, so even though I hate to do this, I needed new shoes. I also wanted to get a high cushioned pair for my easy days when I don’t wear my Skoras. I tried on the Hoka Clifton 3s and it felt like a match. Although the stack height is high, they are still considered minimal in terms of drop. These feel great and I’m glad they don’t rub wrong.

1.) I have to work from 2-10 tonight so I will be unable to go to Natalie’s going away party. I’m really bummed because my boss promised me I wouldn’t have to close again. Also, it just has to be on this day doesn’t it!? I am not very happy about this at all.

2.) I feel kind of…fatigued more than usual this week. I’m not sure what’s going on, maybe with the extra school work and such has my body’s working longer, but at about 3PM the past few days I hit the wall. It’s not so bad and I get through it, but I like being my high energy self.

3.) I have yet to clean the floors like I promised myself and Gennie I would. It was supposed to happen on my day off Wednesday, but I decided to make cheese sauce and fun pasta instead. Someday I will get that together.

Barney Butter, Vegan Sandwiches, and I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT YOU!

This week has been rough work wise. Today is my first day off since last Tuesday and this past weekend was really hard on my coworkers and I. That being said, God has filled me with so much joy, I’m full and bursting with excitement about today and the future.

Let’s be honest, we all blog for ourselves first, but sometimes we want to feel like our content is helping others. Heck, I want my content to help myself. Writing helps me remember what is important in my own life. I go through periods where I question what I’m doing. After all, I’m not certified (yet….read on!) to give out any advice. I only know my own experience and try to write knowledgeably about that. This week though, I got a tiny bit of positive feedback that reminded me why I write.

I don’t want to write any lows this week or top foods (head to Kate’s blog for that) because my life this past week is full outside of those. Sure, I had loss, but to be honest, the highs outweighed those and I want to remember that so much more. My blog is a journey, my own story. This week was so tough physically and mentally at my job, so God (sweet Jesus I just wrote Gid…) blessed me in other ways. I want to share them with you.

Highlights Of My Week:

1.) I am a Barney Butter Ambassador!

Along with a few other bloggers, In It 4 The Long Run, Emilie Eats, The Blissful Balance and others, we have been honored to represent the amazing Almond Butter Company that is Barney Butter! I will do a full post about this next week, but I am SO EXCITED!

2.) Getting emails from readers!

I got the kindest email from a young woman who lives near me in Syracuse, NY. She wrote some very beautiful things that just filled my soul and made me glow. I love hearing that! It makes me feel like the content I share makes a difference. Since she’s so close, we are making plans to meet up. I do first and foremost blog for me, and making a new friend is the ultimate win if I ever had one

3.) Selling vegan sandwiches!

I recently was able to convince one of our regular customers to get my favorite vegan sandwich from CTB. He knows I am vegan and we have a great relationship, but he always got a turkey sandwich. Finally, on Wednesday I suggested he get a different sandwich. He did and now it is his new favorite! He has gotten it twice since then (in two days!!!). It’s really cool to see my small vegan activism work!

4.) Guest posting on Emily’s blog!

A few months ago, Emily asked if I would write a guest post for her blog. I wrote about my struggles with caring too much about what other people think and how overcoming that helped me love myself and pursue my dreams. Take a read HERE!

5.) Start school work again!

This is what I’ve been waiting for. All the times I didn’t eat out to save money, shopping at discount stores, wearing clothes till they’re rags, working as much as possible. I can finally afford to attend the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become a certified health coach. I’m not sure if I want to start a health coaching business, but I a, sure I want to do something in that area. Whether it’s working with wellness companies or other blogs, I can do what I enjoy and maybe even make a difference. It’s been a long few years of saving, but if this is what gets me to my dreams, it’s been worth it!

6.) My Best Friend Stood Up For Herself

We all have people in our lives who just “get us”. This girl I am talking about is one of those people for me. We know everything about each other, yet live far apart. She has been struggling this past week with a few familial issues, and she made a step in the direction toward freedom. I am jealous of some of the relationship she has with her family. Her mom supports her and they are helping her pay for school. Yet, also they have been a crutch for her growth and stop her from living her own life.  This is just what I notice from what she tells me. I am trying to get her to guest post…hint hint 😉 Well, this week she stood up for something she believed in. She decided to put her self worth over the guilty feelings that come with not participating in a toxic family member’s desires. This was HuGe you guys because she (like us all) is a people pleaser. It’s hard for her not to do that. I am brimming with joy and very proud that she was able to prioritized self care over her sisters demands. Praise God for answered prayer!

7.) CTB Has A New High School Runner!

We call the young kids who work for us “runners”. We got a new one a few weeks ago and he is the cutest young boy I’ve met in a while! His mannerisms are adorable and he already feels comfortable with us. I look forward to the days he works because not only do I have less work to do, but he is great!

Running Kilts and Steel Cut Oats [Top 3]

Happy Hump Day to all the weekend warriors like myself! My days off this week were Monday and Tuesday, meaning another weekend working, running and eating. Today I’m linking up with KateMar and Heather to kick off the weekend.

Top 3 Running Moments

1.) I had a Breakthrough Run on Tuesday that left me feeling great. 18.55 total miles with the last 3 at tempo pace. This was mentally challenging, but made easier running with a friend. I’m not in too great of shape, but I’m getting there.

2.) I ran with a guy in a kilt on Wednesday. Apparently he and my running best friend Lesley have this ongoing battle because they finish near each other in races. She invited him to our Wednesday run, kilt in all. He writes a blog, so check him out: Crushing Pavement

3.) Two back-to-back long runs on Monday and Tuesday (my days off) actually refreshed my running life. I wasn’t a zombie for the rest of the day. Hopefully this means my fitness is returning.

Top 3 Lows

1.) Watching the RNC is very educating, but makes me sad to think there are actually people who think banning certain races from our country will be more effective in keeping people safe over imposing stricter gun regulations. That is insane to me, and it’s sad.

2.) My nightmares last night were insane. Family drama, running injuries and dying animals all in one dream. I also had to pee about 20 times during the night. I didn’t even drink any coffee yesterday afternoon. Bad luck.

3.) I definitely need to sweep our floors. It’s bad because I refuse to walk around barefoot due to the cat food on the floor. Silly cats trying to play with their food. Hopefully this gets done today before I leave for work.

Vegan Soft Serve, Workout Highs and Lows: Top 3 [07/15/2016]

Good morning and happy FRIDAY!

Today I am linking up with Kate, Mar and Heather for Friday favorites!

Top 3 Highs

1.) Speaking to my boss about a problem I was having rather than dealing with it myself. The I asked for help and this is something I struggle with. She was able to handle it more professionally than I could.

2.) Finishing my first track workout since marathon training. Monday was a perfect day weather wise and I went off effort rather than pace. Sometimes it’s useful to attempt something hard and not follow a specific workout. I can run hard and it feels like a challenge. I don’t want to be in peace fitness right now, so I am happy with the effort.

3.) Successfully giving up fake sugar. I have been trying to get off putting Splenda in my coffee for a while now. You know what? I don’t miss it. Coffee tastes good by itself with just milk. Still not an espresso fan, no shame.

Top 3 Lows

1.) My wireless headphones, which I love, stopped charging on Monday. I had to travel back to Syracusd to exchange them. It’s not so bad, but it was another trip I did not want to waste gas money on. At least I made the most of it by stopping at Gannon’s, Strong Hearts, Trader Joes and Wegmans.

2.) My tempo run on Wednesday was turned into a fartlek because, well, I was tired and needed a short break during the middle. It was already very humid and hot at 7AM and my legs were tired. I still got a good workout, but it was not what I planned. Oh well, life goes on.

3.) My roommate was sick on Tuesday which kind of dampers my mood too. I think it was food poisoning or something so I’m not worried, but still, it stinks.
